About Birth Doulas

What does a birth doula do?

A doula is a non-medical professional trained to help parents through the physical and emotional experience of having a baby. Think of me as your personal birth coach and advocate, there to support you every step of the way.

Birth doulas provide:

  • Emotional support
  • Physical support
  • Education
  • Advocacy
  • Culturally-responsive support

Culturally-responsive care

At the heart of my practice is a commitment to culturally-responsive care. This means:

  • Referring out to a better suited doula in the best interest of the pregnant person
  • Embodying Cultural Humility in all my interactions
  • Practicing Cultural Awareness to better understand and support diverse needs
  • Not assuming knowledge of other's cultural customs or lifestyles & asking respectful questions to provide the best care possible
